پس از ارزیابی انجام شده توسط متخصصین میزان و شدت اختلال اتیسم را بایستی بررسی کرد چرا که براساس شدت این اختلال افراد نیازمند حمایت ها و مداخلات مناسبی خواهند بود و بر اساس ملاک های تشخیص اتیسم در کتاب راهنمایی آماری و تشخیصی نسخه پنجم DSM5طبقه بندی شده است به خاطر داشته باشید که بر اساس شدت اختلال، کودکان در سه سطح ، طبقه بندی شده اند که به شرح زیر هستند.
افراد دارای اختلال اتیسم در سطح ۱ ، نیازمندی به حمایت هستند. طبق طبقه بندی در DSM4 معادل با اختلال آسپرگر و اتیسم با عملکرد بالا می باشند.
افراد دارای اختلال اتیسم در سطح۲ ، نیازمندی به نظارت و حمایت قابل توجه هستند. . طبق طبقه بندی در DSM4معادل با اختلال گسترده یا پیشرونده رشد مشخص نشده، سندرم فروپاشانده دوره کودکی می باشند.
